My mosaics

November 11th, 2008 by · No Comments · my mosaics

I have been busy creating some mosaics that I thought I would show on my blog.  They vary in size and design.  Some take pride of place in our native garden and some I have made as gifts.

Our sign that greets people as they come down our drive.

I made this mosaic for my mum and dad to put up at their new holiday house on the York Peninsular.

A shabby chic dragonfly plaque that I attached to my cheville mirror.

Nhill Little Desert camp

November 10th, 2008 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

I have just spent 3 fantastic days on camp with our 17 grade 3 and 4 children.  We left Merbein South on Wed morning at 8:00am and headed off to the Little Desert Lodge in Nhill, Victoria.  After finally getting there on the Freddy Flinstone bus the kids settled into their rooms and explored the surroundings.  During the 3 days the  children enjoyed bird banding, a night spotlight walk, a four wheel drive tour through the Little Desert National Park and survival shelter building activity.  They also went echidna tracking, checked cage traps that had caught bandicoots during the night and visited Whimpey’s mallee fowl area where we saw George the mallee foul tending his impressive mound.  Although we had a couple of incidents including a trip to the Nhill Hospital to have 5 stitches put in one girl’s leg we all had a thoroughly enjoyable time and learnt heaps about our precious environment.

A New Holland honeyeater that was caught in the mist net and then banded.

This is Graeme, our tour guide holding the echidna that we tracked using  a radio transmitter.  All the children were able to hold the echidna before releasing back into the bush.

I would recommend the Little Desert camp to anyone wishing to take children on a camp with an environmental focus.

As you know I am learning about blogs and really want to use them with you in the classroom during our cooperative learning sessions.  It has been interesting finding out about blogging and trying out new things – just goes to show that we really are life-long learners.  I would really love it if you could have a look through the blog so far and add any comments or questions.

I am keen to use blogging as a way we can reflect upon our cooperative groupwork activities and learning.  To start this off I would like you to post a comment about what you thought of our jigsaw activity today.  Be sure to include a personal reflection about how you think your group worked today and how effectively you contributed to your group.

I am looking forward to reading your responses.

I hope this works!

Grand final day 2007 at Yalara with Ulura in the background.

G’day, I’m Kerry and I teach at Merbein South Primary School.  This is my first attempt at blogging and I’m enjoying the challenge.  ICT is not my strongest point so I am expecting to run into a few hurdles along the way.  Hopefully, with some help I will prevail!  I teach .6 in the education department and .4 in the Grimmer household department.  My role at school is teaching art, cooperative groupwork, thinking skills, maths, inquiry and running Polt workshops.   I’m really interested to find out about how other participants are going to use their blogs, I am hoping to extend mine for use in the classroom to promote reflective practice.  This time last year we took long service leave for the whole term and travelled throughout Northern Territory and WA with two kids and a camper trailer.  How things have changed in 12 months!
